The Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act authorized $1.2 trillion in federal spending over five years, including $550 billion in new investment for roads, bridges, rail, broadband, water systems, the electrical grid, and EV charging networks. It was the largest federal infrastructure investment since the Interstate Highway System. The bill passed the Senate with rare bipartisan support - 19 Republicans crossed party lines to vote Yea. In the House, 13 Republicans voted with Democrats to pass it, while 6 progressive Democrats voted Nay as a documented tactical move to pressure simultaneous passage of the Build Back Better Act. President Biden signed it into law on November 15, 2021.
