The Build Back Better Act proposed a sweeping expansion of federal investment in social programs, climate action, healthcare, childcare, and clean energy, representing one of the largest domestic policy packages in decades. The bill passed the House 220–213, with Jared Golden as the sole Democratic Nay vote, while all other 219 Democrats voted Yea and Republicans unanimously opposed it. Despite clearing the House, the legislation was never brought to a vote in the Senate, where opposition from Joe Manchin effectively halted its progress, preventing it from becoming law.
