The American Energy Innovation Act was a bipartisan package aimed at advancing energy research, modernizing infrastructure, and supporting clean energy technologies, nuclear development, and grid resilience. The bill failed to advance in the Senate after a cloture vote of 47–44 (60 required), with 33 Republicans and 13 Democrats voting Yea, while 16 Republicans and 28 Democrats voted Nay, and 9 senators not voting, including four presidential candidates absent from the chamber. Despite this failure, core provisions were later incorporated into the Energy Act of 2020, which was successfully passed and enacted into law.
